Hi all,
I arrived in Tokyo on the 17th and flew to Osaka on the 19th. Now I am staying with my hostfamily in Kobe. The food is wonderful and my family is very accommodating. For example, for last nights dinner, we ate: soup, sesame tofu with miso, breaded fried tofu in dipping sauce, inari zushi (bean curd skin w/ veggie/rice filling), onogiri (rice balls, with plum filling and nori seaweed wrap), a boiled potato/carrot dish (it traditionally has meat but my family cooked a separate one for me), and avocado!! OISHII (delicious!) Am I making anyone hungry? :) And for todays lunch, which was a packed lunch that i took to school called obento, i had onigiri, leftover potato/carrot dish, grilled eggplant, and a hashbrown type thing. I have had one experience where i found out after i ate something that it had egg, but for the most part its been awesome! They even have soymilk here, so i can eat rice flake cereal for breakfast. Well thats me vegan in asia update, sayounara for now!
