Hi ComfyJoey, are you of the baby carrier ad? Welcome! My family started on our vegan journey for health reasons. Ds was 6wks old, exclusively bf, and had blood in his stool. The ped said its probably a milk allergy and told me to quit consuming dairy. So I did. Then I started researching how to get calcium and found there are better ways to get it than dairy! I also found info on how animal protein can inhibit the absorption of calcium. Then I found www.drmcdougall.com. Later I read The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. I got to hear Brenda Davis (vegan dietician) speak! I would encourage you to take a look at some of their writings about the health benefits!

Here we are going on 7 years now! We're currently researching how to healthfully feed a dog a vegan diet, because we really want to adopt from a local shelter.

In my experience, moving to a vegan diet created a situation in which I was forced to actually pay attention to my food, and to try new foods and new recipes. In doing so, my diet is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much wider than it was before. I eat a wide variety of proteins from beans to seeds to avocados to whole grains. My skin cleared up and my nails are long and strong. I am also at a much better weight and it is stable.

Thanks Mishkin! Our challenge is to find a dog food that is also gluten-free. I've been reading some interesting books about vegan dogs and cats and am thinking if we go this route (dog), I'll probably be preparing more food from scratch and supplementing (or those are my thoughts at this stage of the game - LOL!).
