Soy milk question
Silk and Sun Soy are the two major brands of refrigerated soy milk available in our area. We had heard that Sun Soy used GMO, so we've stuck with Silk (which we like). Today I saw Sun Soy in our natural foods store for the first time with a label stating "no gmo". Does anyone else know if it used to be a product to avoid or if it still is for some reason? Its quite a bit cheaper than Silk!!! Thanks!

I have been drinking Sun Soy for a while, even before they switched to a vegan recipe (I didn't know the difference b/n vitamin D2 and D3) and as far as I have seen they have always used GMO free beans but I don't know for a fact.
We used to drink Silk but the Sun Soy is cheaper and smoother than the Silk. I find the Silk to be gritty-but then again I really only drink the chocolate kind.

I finally thought to check the Sun Soy web site and discovered it contains the same nutritional percentages and ingredients as Silk, with one major difference ... Silk uses organic ingredients and Sun Soy does not! That explains the price difference.

(I'll try this again - I tried to reply and it created a new thread)
Sun Soy & soy ice cream
Our favorite local restaurant swears by Sun Soy for their vegan ice creams. They are delicious, too! If you're ever in the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) North Carolina, check them out -- they're called Crazie Mae's and they are a progressively-minded diner situated along railroad tracks in renovated train cars right smack in the middle of Carrboro. They have a ton of vegan food (mostly mock-meat southern food) and wonderful vegan desserts (often bread pudding, a variety of cakes, brownies, and of course the soy ice cream, which they can do all kinds of specialty fountain desserts with.)

I was looking at the company info for Sun Soy and Silk one day, and noticed that they have the same distributor.
If they sell it in your area, you should try 8th Continent Soy milk. It comes in a big plastic jug. Here, it retails for about $3.50 a half gallon. My friends and I prefer it to Silk, which was our favorite till we tried 8th Continent.

Sun Soy
Sun Soy uses only non-GMO ingredients but as mentioned above is not organic.
I have tried 8th Cont., Silk, Eden, Soy Dream, Rice Dream, Wegmans (store brand), Demoulas (store brand), a low sugar soy milk and out of all of them Sun Soy has had the best "milk" consistency for 1-2% milk, it was not gritty like Silk, mixes well in cereals, baking, cooking, cocoa and coffee. My omni friends and family think that it is the best tasting brand too, they feel it resembles cow milk and choco cow milk the best. It is completely vegan-some of the other brands use D3, which is animal derived, and is fortified. Plus it is the cheapest one in my area $2.27 a half gallon and it is sold at mainstream stores. But that's my opinion.

silk and wind energy
Hi, the really great thing about Silk Soy Milk is that they have spent a lot of time and money converting most (or maybe even all) of their production methods to using wind power. It was obviously a huge investment to them financially, but so worth it. I really appreciate the effort that they have put in to protecting our environment - and for this reason we always buy Silk - when available - over any other soy milk. And luckily we love the taste too!! Also it is great becuase it has almost twice as much fat as other brands (including soy and rice milks) which is great for our growing 1 year old!!
PS 8th continent (mentioned above) is VERY delicious too, we don't have it here in Ontario, but drink it alot when we visit my dad in San Francisco.

Do you know if 8th Continent is organic? Someone gave me a coupon recently and said they'd seen it locally...
