advice on thyroid problem
I recently went to the doctor to have blood work done. I wanted a baseline of my cholesterol since becoming vegan and then I will have it done again in 6 months or a year to see the progress. I also wanted to check my B12 level to make sure I was getting enough.
The good news is that my cholesterol levels are VERY low. My B12 levels are very high. They said I should cut back in fact. I was kinda surprised cause I don't go out of my way to make sure I get it, I just drink fortified rice/soy milk and nutritional yeast when cooking etc.
My iron level was also fine.
The one thing she was concerned about was my thyroid. She says I have hypothyroidism. She wants to put my on some prescription for it. I told her I would call back for an appt.
I don't really believe too much in traditional medicine. I believe more in homeopathic, chiropratic and healing through diet. So I started digging in to how to correct the problem nutritionally. I came across some info that says too much soy can have an adverse effect on your thyroid. Have any of you heard this? Is there any truth to it? If so, what am I to do? We obviously eat a lot of soy, not every day but several times a week.
