Question:

Should I be giving my baby a vegan multivitamin? She's 8 months old, and no longer breastfeeding. The only solids she eats are fruits and veggies and I'm concerned about B12, iron, and calcium. Will a vitamin help and can you please recommend a vegan liquid vitamin suitable for babies?

Answer:

YES! You definitely should be giving your baby a vegan multivitamin daily. Infants require Vitamin B-12 to grow and, after six months, iron to make new blood. In general, all vegan children older than 4 months of age would benefit from a daily vitamin supplement containing Vitamin B-12, folic acid, riboflavin, and iron. Talk to the person who supervises vitamin purchases at your local natural food store and review with them the catalogues from the various companies to identify vegan liquid infant vitamins. If necessary, have them ordered in special for you.
