10 Reasons to Go Organic
By Tammie Ortlieb
Increase the nutritional content of your diet
Organic foods are lower in nitrates and higher in antioxidants. They provide greater flavor along with increased nutrients.
Assure quality in the foods you eat
You can be certain that the foods you eat have been grown without the use of chemicals. No more questioning the ethics of the farmer who raised the produce on your plate.
Reduce the toxins in our land, water, and air
Many chemicals used in non-organic farming have been applied for years, even decades, before we have discovered potential health risks.
Avoid sketchy science
GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms) are not exactly food. Genetical engineering involves crossing two organisms that wouldn't cross by natural means. Health risks can be great and uncertain. Fish in my strawberries? No, thank you!
Protect the environment
Build healthy soil. Defend our water resources. Clean our air of noxious pollutants.
Promote biodiversity
Organic farming is nature at its most natural. With the elimination of chemicals, wildlife return to build homes, feed, and give birth.
Give back to the community
Support local farmers. Keep the local economy strong.
Protect future generations
Eliminate risk to unborn children, both by reducing pollutants during prenatal development and by protecting their land for future use.
Maintain a reverence for the land
Eat in season. Respect the nature of growth and giving.
Support leaders in innovative research
Organic farmers have spent much of their own time and resources to promote a more sustainable healthful way of eating.
