Allison's Gourmet
www.allisonsgourmet.com
Review by Erin Pavlina

Allison's Cookies are pretty legendary around the vegan community, but as of last week I hadn't had a chance to try them. Since Mother's Day was fast approaching, I spammed my family with an email link to buy some of these cookies for me. Of the 10 or so people I sent the email to, only one came through; my mom, bless her heart!

AllisonI picked up my special package at the post office and immediately put it into the freezer just in case it had tried to melt on the way to its new home. After 20 minutes I went back to the freezer to retrieve my treasure. I opened the shipping box and ripped into the nice box it came in. I was presented with a dozen of the Mint Chocolate Chip variety.

I really wanted to savor the cookies and take it slowly, so I gingerly opened the package and broke off half a cookie (you have to be conservative when you only have 12). I walked with it carefully to my living room, turned down the lights, turned on some Enya, and sat down on my plush couch. The baby was asleep and my husband was at a convention. No one was around to interrupt me and my cookie.

I bit into the cookie and was immediately (and pleasantly) assaulted by the strong mint flavor. Mmmmmm. Refreshing. Tasty. Sweet. I wasn't so tentative with the next few bites. Within moments the half cookie was consumed. Now what? Dare I pop back into the kitchen for some more? Well, I rationalized, I did only take a half and I was really entitled to a full cookie, wasn't I?

By the end of the day I had consumed two full cookies. I was determined to save the rest. My husband came home and took one without asking. He's still limping a week later. I took two to my first Mother's Day celebration and proceeded to flaunt them in the faces of my non-vegan relatives. As of this writing I still have four left, but they're going fast. I'm going to have to start saving up so I can try the other flavors. Let me mention here that these cookies are not the cheapest treats on the planet. But still... if you're a vegan junkie, they are worth the price. Start saving now!
