"But where do you get your protein?" Smoothie

Submitted by Liz

I like to make this smoothie on mornings when I need help waking up. It gives me the energy I need without all the caffeine and artificial sugars. The only caffeine is a trivial amount in the green tea, and you could always use caffeine-free green tea. If it's not sweet enough for your liking, you can add more banana or a bit of agave nectar. This was inspired by a recipe my boyfriend gave me, so I have to give him props :) Enjoy!
  • 1 cup strawberries, frozen or fresh
  • 1 cup blueberries, frozen of fresh (or substitute in another cup of strawberries)
  • 1/2 medium banana (if using 2 cups strawberrries, I suggest using more banana)
  • 1 cup plain nondairy milk (I use Living Harvest hemp milk)
  • 1/2 cup filtered water (give or take 1/2 cup; for consistency)
  • 1 Tbsp ground flax seed, brown or golden (using more than 1 Tbsp won't hurt)
  • contents of 1 green tea bag (preferably organic)
  • 2 Tbsp vegan protein powder (I use 1 Tbsp Living Harvest hemp protein powder, original flavor and 1 Tbsp LifeTime mega-green hi-pro soy protein powder)

Note: Hemp contains digestible protein, fiber, Omega-3, Omega-6, all 10 Essential Amino Acids, Vitamins E, C, and B6, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, and Iron. It is by far the best thing you can put into your body!

Go as organic as possible! Hemp is organic.

Directions: Putting fruit in first, then remaining ingredients, blend untill smooth.

Enjoy!
