Why Did You Go Vegan?AmyI went vegan one month ago. I had been "toying" with the idea of going vegetarian. It started me reading books and visiting websites and It just broke my heart how animals are treated so we can have a cheap hamburger. My family (husband & three kids) makes fun of me, in good humor, but I am hoping to make an impact by educating them slowly, offering tastey vegan foods, and most of all by being a good role model. It is hard still purchasing and preparing meat, but I do it less and less, with smaller and smaller portions, and buy local & organic (I'm so sneaky). Soon I will start replacing meat in "dishes" with soymeats, etc..., any suggestions on brands? This weekend I am going to clean out the animal products in my closet. Changing is hard but satisfying. I really dread telling my parents and friends, so far I have just hidden it out of fear that they will think it is just a phase. It seems like everyone likes to argue with you, and try to convince you that it is stupid. I think it is because they are afraid of change and know deep inside that being vegan or atleast vegetarian would alieviate alot of horror and suffering, much less improve their health tremendously. I know I feel much better on so many levels! Read more stories If you found the information in this article helpful, please leave a donation for VegFamily or share it with others. |
