Why Did You Go Vegan?

Jake

It's been a long strange trip. What do I mean by that? Well, my journey to this point has taken me the last four years.

Four years ago I decided that I wanted to be a vegetarian, for my health. It lasted for one month, when I decided that (I'm from Buffalo, NY) I'd rather eat chicken wings, pizza, burgers, and all that, than worry about not eating them. That was well and good, but I made periodic attempts at vegetarianism, I felt a pull towards it.

Each subsequent year, I spent at least 6 months of each year at vegetarian level.

Last year, I was able to have finally cut out all pork and beef, now only eating chicken, and at that, only skinless, boneless chicken breast (I liked the stuff).

This summer, I went completely vegetarian. I do not regret it for a minute-- I felt healthier than I did in years, and I lost 60 pounds! People commented on how good I looked and I told them-- it's because I don't eat meat.

In the last month, I have found that Caesin, a protien found in dairy products irritates sinuses. Well, seeing as I'd had a sinus infection for the last month, and was scheduled for sinus surgery in sept., I thought-- What the heck, might as well take this all the way. So, I did. I'm now a vegan, and all I miss is my cheese. But, I'd have to say that I do feel better after making the final leap. I am committed to staying this way for good, however, because I am truly convinced that this is a change that will increase the quality of my life.
