Why Did You Go Vegan?

John

I was vegetarian in college for less than 2 years and at the time, it wasn't clear to me why even choose that lifestyle. After hearing interviews and reading articles, I really had a sudden realization that I might be able to help the planet by refusing the products made from animal and earth exploitation. It's difficult and often I feel the strangeness of the amount of consumer products that include animal -- makes you realize we have a serious problem in simply using up the waste and animal by-product. My family and friends seem interested yet confused and don't necessarily agree with my logic--that by living by vegan principals, you encourage more sustainable farming practices, that you consciously object to the exploitation of defenseless beings and that you are not supporting industries and methods that condone these practices. It has not been a year for me but I am commited to teaching my children, encouraging my wife to consider and others to try, even for a period of time, this very important choice in life.
