Why Did You Go Vegan?

I've been a vegetarian since I was 17 years old (11 years ago), and decided to take the leap into veganism about 1 month ago. I just couldn't reconcile exploiting animals when I didn't need to.

I have a 3 year old daughter and a husband who are both vegetarian. I don't find not eating dairy a problem, but am finding it difficult to know what other products I need to avoid and why (soap, toothpaste etc). Overall, I feel that when we don't need to consume or exploit animals to lead a healthy lifestyle, it is arrogant and gluttonous to do so simply because we think it is easier. I am also a Buddhist, and whilst there's no rule that I can't eat meat, I think veganism sits better with the Buddhist philosophy.
