Why Did You Go Vegan?

I recently decided to become a vegetarian when I moved away from home to go to college. I had experimented with it at a young age while I was living with my parents, but it was too difficult for my mother to prepare two dinners to please the family.

My boyfriend, a vegan, was doing research for an English paper about veganism. So of course I read his material. I had realized before that by eating eggs and dairy I was still supporting animal cruelty and the meat industry. But suddenly it came to me that if I was a vegetarian as a way to discourage said cruelty, I wasn't doing a very good job.

So far, I don't miss any of the old foods I used to eat, even ice cream. I feel as if I have reached a new state of maturity and feel responsible for holding my own in my boycott against animal suffering.
