Why Did You Go Vegan?

Tabitha

I had been vegetarian 10 years before even thinking about going vegan. I have two children who were born with milk protein allergies. They were not being raised totally without meat( their dad was a meat eater and argued constantly that it wasn't healthy to not include it). We had to put them both on soymilk and nothing containing dairy could be eaten.

So I just eliminated dairy completly from my diet. Which come to find out I also have a milk protein allergy.( Explains all the stomach cramps and so forth) My husband then decided he needed to lose weight so as not to hurt his health. He asked if I could help him eat they way I do. OF COURSE! Well then he saw just how healthy being a vegetarian was and helped switch the children. So now I and my children are vegan and my husband is vegetarian. We are expecting our third child in January 2002 and so far I am doing great with the vegan pregnancy! (As the other 2 were vegetarian). But It is a struggle sometimes with reading packages, going to families houses for dinner, parties, the stuff everyone else tends to have problems with. But a GOOD thing is my family never says anything bad. They (for the most part) remember to ask if me or my children will eat certain things. This way of living is a great health advantage and earth advantage!
